Overview of my Apologetic Material

  • Apologia = Greek word meaning: defense

  • Apologetics = the defense of the (Christian) faith

  • How do I "defend" my Christian faith:

    • With Historical Evidence:

      • That Jesus had lived among humans, that He had claimed to be the Son of God, that Jesus did died, that He was buried in a well-known tomb, that He was seen by many of his followers after He has died (i.e., resurrected)

    • With Scientific Evidence:

      • With examples/cases that evolution cannot explain (i.e., are highly unlikely to have developed through a random process)

  Reasonable Faith

  • Most important fact for Christians:

    • Christian faith is not a blind faith

  • 1 Peter 3:15:

    • Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.

  • Reason is defined as:

    • The motive for a decision or a conviction

    • The capacity for logical, rational, and analytic thought

    I.e.:

    • Can you explain why you believe in your God ???

  • I'm here to tell you why I believe that Jesus is my God with logic

What is the basis of your faith ?

  • Some common basis for a person's faith:

    • Your pastor or your parent(s) told you so and the fact that you trust them ? ("Cultural Christian")

    • You believe everything you read and you happen to read the Bible first ?

  • Ungrounded faith: is weak:

    • Unless you hide from everything in this world, sooner or later, you may/will discover "other truths"

    • Then your faith that is based on "trust" in your pastor or parent(s) will erode and (eventually) fade away.

  • Grounded faith is strong:

    • Will not call upon your emotions to believe

    • Will only ask you to apply your REASON, LOGIC and INTELLECT
